Torrington Locomotive Nameplate Donated
18 January 2025

At our AGM we were presented with the original nameplate and coat of arms of Southern Railway West Country Class 'Torrington' by Ian Newman the Steward of the Torrington Town and Lands Charity. They had been in possession of the nameplate since it was donated to the town by British Railways upon the scrapping of the locomotive in 1965 and had stored it safely ever since.
The donation of this historic piece of Great Torrington's history will form the centre piece of our new museum once it has been completed and will once again be able to be admired by the general public. We are very grateful to the Torrington Town and Lands Charity for this kind donation.
